Sugar Club Phuket
Hip-hop for your island holiday.
The buzz: Bangkok's biggest hip-hop nightclub, Sukhumvit Soi 11's Sugar, has opened a second branch in Phuket, promising yet more heady beats and what they're calling Las Vegas-style party vibes.
The decor: With LED screens lighting up the Bangla party strip, there's no missing it. Inside, you're welcomed by a full-blown light show. Bar stools and tables are cleared for an empty dance floor come showtime. The stage juts out into the audience so clubbers can get up close and personal with the performers. For those who just want to kick back with a drink, there are curved couches that allow you to enjoy the music from afar on the main floor or mezzanine.
The music: Live DJs provide a modern hip-hop soundtrack every night, flanked by professional dancers. Already, international hip-hop stars like Rae Sremmurd, Byte, Lead and Fatfingaz have headlined, but Thailand’s local talent isn’t totally forgotten. (Note: cover charges apply on concert nights.)
The food and drinks: The drink menu has stuff to suit everyone—from plain and simple beer lovers to those with money to burn. If the latter sounds like you, throw your cash at a fancy 6-liter bottle of Moet Chandon Imperial Champagne (B60,000) or a 4.5-liter Grey Goose Jeroboam vodka (B50,000) to keep the night flowing. Tone things down with a glass of house red wine (B150) or one of eight straightforward cocktails like the Mai Tai (B280). There are some sweet drink promos: free-flow on selected beers, wines and spirits from 10pm-2am daily is B600, while you can also get half-price standard-size bottles from 10pm-1am.
The crowd: Hip-hop heads, both local and foreign party types.
Why you’ll come back: Sugar's dedication to hip-hop—both international performers and locals—adds a new dimension to Phuket's nightlife. Not sold on the main act? The dancers alone provide some exciting evening entertainment. Choltanutkun Tun-atiruj
